Evansville Rallies To Down Bethune-Cookman, 6-5

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Evansville made a come from behind effort in the
seventh and ninth inning, scoring six runs to eliminate Bethune-Cookman 6-5
on Saturday in Game 3 of the NCAA Baseball Tallahassee Regional at Dick
Howser Stadium. Evansville improved 41-21 and will face the loser of the
Florida State/UCF game at 7:00pm. Bethune-Cookman finishes the season at 33-29.

The Wildcats scored early, with three runs off of four straight hits in the
second inning. With one out, designated hitter Mark Woodyard singled to
left field. Jorge Ramos ripped a double down the left field line and drove
in Woodyard for the first run. James Carter followed with a single to
second and then stole second to put both runners in scoring position.
Treran Porter drove in both Ramos and Carter with a base hit to right field.

In the fourth inning, the Purple Aces threatened as they loaded the bases
with two outs on singles by Matt Serafini and Joe Noel and a walk to Anthony
Molina, but Wes Davis flew out to center to end the rally.

BCC took advantage of two Evansville errors and scored one run in the
fifth. Porter reached on an error by Molina, the UE second baseman, to lead
off the inning. He went to second on a base hit by Christian Morales and
advanced to third on a throwing error by Evansville catcher Matt Serafini.
Matt Knox drove in Porter with a ground out to the shortstop.

Evansville closed the gap in the seventh inning, cutting the lead to two.
Phil Broshears started the scoring with a single RBI, bringing in Ryan
Connors who reached base on balls. Rightfielder Doug Schoenekase knocked a
single to left center, setting up the two-run single to left field from Matt
Serafini to cut the lead to two.

The Purple Aces tied the score in the ninth inning when designated hitter
Joe Noel knocked in the first run off a single RBI. Schoenekase then tagged
up and scored on a sacrifice fly from Brian Wegman to tie the game at five.
Shortstop Wes Davis drove in the winning run off a single to centerfield,
scoring Broshears and giving Evansville the 6-5 win.

Evansville relief pitcher Preston Larrison got the win (7-3), throwing
three strikeouts in four innings of work. Wildcat pitcher Brook Jerue went
one and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs, three hits and recording
the loss (6-4). Bethune-Cookman starter Seth Jerue went six and two-thirds
innings, giving up eight hits, three runs and striking out three. Purple Ace
starter Ryan Miller went five innings, giving up four runs and striking out
