TAMPA, Fla. – The women’s tennis team finished their final tournament of the fall season this weekend at the USF Fall Tennis Classic in Tampa, Fla.

“I think this was a good weekend to finish our fall season,” head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “With no particular formant, it gave us an opportunity to do the things we’ve been working on in practice and there were some highlights and we got better as the weekend progressed.”

In singles, junior Carolina De los Santos won two out of three matches this weekend including a dramatic rally in her last match against Danielle Mills of USF. She was down 5-2, match point in the third set and found a way to fight back and steal the win 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). De los Santos finished her fall campaigned with a record of 4-3.

Junior Francesca Segarelli picked up a victory against Genevieve Lorberges of UCF 7-5, 7-5 and moved to 1-3 for the fall and freshman Leyla Erkan took a match against Courtney Grifith of UCF, 6-3,6-2 as she concluded at 7-7 for the season.

De Los Santos would team up with Segarelli for doubles play, where they captured two wins, beating Fanny Francassi and Mills of USF 8-5 as well as the pair from UCF in Alexis Rodriguez and Lorberges, 8-6.

“We have a lot of good things to take from the weekend,” coach Hyde said. “Now, we’ll focus on our fitness and conditioning from now until the Christmas break in order to get us ready for the season.”

The Seminoles will begin their season on Jan. 21, 2012 as they are set to face UCF at 1 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
