For the fifth year in a row, the men’s and women’s track & field and cross country teams will bring Christmas cheer to seven deserving children this holiday season through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.
Through the program, the teams are able to provide clothing and toys to children, ages 3-13, whose families are not able to afford presents. This year the student-athletes and staff from both teams were hoping to collect more than $800 in order to purchase items on the children’s Christmas wish list. Each member from the teams donated at least $5.
“Being able to be involved with a project like this means a great deal to many of the members on the teams,” women’s sprints and hurdles coach Jackie Richards said.
With more involvement and coordination from team captains, the team’s exceeded expectations collecting nearly $1,100. Special thanks goes to the coaching staffs, office manager Scott Wright and the eight student-athletes who purchased and wrapped all of the presents.
