FULLERTON, Calif. –
Inclement weather in Southern California forced the cancellation of Florida State’s softball game with Cal State Northridge on Saturday (March 18) in the consolation bracket of the Judi Garman Classic. The game will not be made up and no statistics from the game will count.
Florida State was in the midst of a comeback in the fifth inning when lightning in the area forced the evacuation of the playing field. Soon after the field was cleared, heavy rains swept through the area, forcing tournament officials to call the game.
After giving up three runs in the first two innings, the Seminoles scored a pair of their own on a Brittany Osmon (San Diego, Calif.) home run. Designated player Whitney Buckmon (Stone Mountain, Ga.) led off the bottom of the fifth with a single then stole second and third base before the game was halted.
Florida State returns to action Thursday (March 23) when it takes on Florida International in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at JoAnne Graf Field. The Seminoles went 1-3 in the tournament, but their lone victory was against No. 10 Arizona State.
