Finishing Strong

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With 13 practices already finished, the 14th and final spring practice for the Florida State Seminoles seemed as strong as the others as FSU practiced for the final time this spring Thursday afternoon at the intramural fields across from Doak Campbell Stadium. Next up for the Seminoles is the annual Garnet & Gold game on Saturday.

“Anytime your main leader isn’t here, you hope it’s not a letdown,” FSU assistant head coach and offensive line coach Rick Trickett said. “We’ve been telling them we’re going to practice like he would want us to practice like. I thought we were a little bit better on offense today. I thought as far as the inside drill, a lot more runs came out of it today. I didn’t think we did as good in blitz, but I thought overall as far as on the offense, I felt like we were a little bit sharper and crisper than the defense was today. I thought for the last day. They came out and we got some things done.”

For the second straight day, the Seminoles practiced in shells saving full pad contact for the spring game. The team worked on game-type situations treating Thursday’s practice like a Friday walkthrough before a game like they do during the regular season.

Trickett said head coach Jimbo Fisher and the rising seniors will meet Friday to draft rosters for both the Garnet and Gold teams.

“I’d probably go quarterback first but if I get a quarterback first, I’d probably get the second or third center so I don’t know,” joked Trickett when asked who’d he take with the first pick. “I’d have to sleep on that one tonight. That’s an NFL decision. EJ’s[Manuel] been here three years and it’s his time. As long as you have a quarterback you have a chance.”
