Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State sophomore Ruth Seaborne is set to compete in both singles and doubles matches at the 2011 AEGON British Junior National Champions on Aug. 8-12 in at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, England.
Seaborne has had a very successful summer in both singles and doubles matches while playing in nine straight weeks of competition. She even went through a stretch of 15 matches in 5 days.
“It’s been a long summer with all of these tournaments,” Seaborne said. “Thank God for trainers. I’ve been playing so hard for so long that my body just felt broken. I’m glad I have a week to recover and get ready for Nationals.”
The week she arrived home in England, she immediately began competing. On her first stop, she won the Nottingham British Tour. From there she qualified for The Junior Championships at Wimbledon and defeated Gabriele Andrews from the United States, who was ranked No. 41 in the world.
In doubles play, she made the semifinals of the Foxhills 25K and then teamed up with fellow Seminole Danieka Borthwick for the Chiswick, where they also reached the semifinals.
As a freshman, Seaborne put together a stretch of 11-consecutive singles wins for the Seminoles.
This will be the final stop for Seaborne before she heads back to Tallahassee and she plans to make this tournament her best.
“Winning the whole things would be a perfect end to a painfully hard summer,” Seaborne said. “It would also give me a lot of momentum heading into this season.”
