First Lady of Football Award Given

JACKSON, Miss. — Ann Bowden, wife of Florida State University’s fabled coach
Bobby Bowden and mother of two other head coaches, Terry Bowden of Auburn
and Tommy Bowden of Tulane, is the first recipient of the All-American
Football Foundation’s “First Lady of Football” award.

Mrs. Bowden will be included among the honorees of a star-studded cast at
the Foundation’s Banquet of Champions X, March 16, in Tampa.

The announcement was made by the Foundation’s President Jimmie McDowell
who said, “It is time to honor the loyal wives of outstanding football
people who help contribute to their husband’s success.”

The Foundation also announced that John Bridgers, former Athletic Director
at Baylor University, Florida State and the University of New Mexico, would
be a recipient of it’s General Robert Reese Neyland Athletic Director
Lifetime Achievement Award. Bridgers is the man who hired Bowden as FSU’s
head football coach.

Wright Waters, who recently reitred as commissioner of the Southern
Conference, will receive the Foundation’s Asa S. Bushnell Commissioner’s
Award.
