First Round Of Liz Murphey Collegiate Women’s Classic Cancelled Because Of Rain

March 27, 2009

The first round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Women’s Golf Classic has been cancelled due to heavy rain that has made the University of Georgia Golf Course unplayable. The 18 teams are now scheduled to play 18 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday as the event has been cut from a 54-hole tournament to a 36-hole tournament.

It marks the first time in the 37-year history of the event that a round of the event has been cancelled du to inclement weather.

Rain began at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Friday and continued throughout
most of the day. There was a brief break early in the afternoon and it
appeared that play might be able to start at 3:00. However, the rain began
again soon thereafter and continued until the course was ruled unplayable.

The first round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. on
Saturday morning.
