scheduled to attend the Seventh Annual Dick Vitale Gala on May 18 in Sarasota, Florida. Net proceeds from the event
will benefit pediatric cancer research in Florida through The V Foundation.
"For the seventh consecutive year, Sarasota will be the toast of the sports world," said Vitale. "The gala will have
so many big names, led by our honorees, Lou Holtz, Gary Williams and Jay Wright. Then you have the likes of John
Calipari, Rick Pitino, Billy Donovan, Bob Huggins, Frank Martin, Leonard Hamilton and Jim Calhoun from college
basketball, baseball's Gary Sheffield, new Bucs coach Greg Schiano, Heisman Trophy winner Vinny Testaverde, Florida
State football coach Jimbo Fisher and many more. It should be awesome, baby, with a capital A as we raise over $1
million for pediatric cancer research."
Among others scheduled to attend the Gala are the NFL's Ricky Watters, Reggie Brooks, and Ken Dorsey as well as New
York Giants' offensive lineman David Baas. NCAA men's basketball will be represented by Final Four coaches Calipari
and Pitino as well as Mike Brey (Notre Dame) Mark Gottfried (NC State), Ben Howland (UCLA), Jim Calhoun (UConn) and
Scott Drew (Baylor). College football coaches in attendance will include Skip Holtz (South Florida) and Charlie Strong
(Louisville). ESPN sports radio and television personality Colin Cowherd as well as college basketball insider for CBS
Sports and Sirius/XM Radio Jon Rothstein will also be in attendance.
The Seventh Annual Dick Vitale Gala will be held on May 18, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota. During the
event, a winner of the Dick Vitale Car Raffle will be announced. The winner will receive a Mars Red Mercedes E350A.
Tickets for the raffle are on sale now. Only 1,500 car raffle tickets will be sold for a suggested minimum donation of
$100. Following the Gala, an after party will include live music featuring R&B group The Spinners.
