TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Following a 24-1 regular season finish and earning the top seed in this weekend’s inaugural Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Conference Tournament, the Florida State Beach Volleyball team was honored for their outstanding play as five Seminoles earned All-Conference accolades. Seniors Julie Brown, Jace Pardon and Kristina Pellitteri, sophomore Victoria Paranagua and freshman Nikki Esposito were all recognized by the CCSA as announced by the league office on Thursday.
The duos of Brown/Pardon and Paranagua/Pellitteri earned First Team All-Conference honors, while Esposito was named to the All-Freshman team. Brown and Pardon were also recognized as the CCSA’s Pair of the Year with Esposito claiming co-Freshman of the Year accolades.
Brown and Pardon played at the No. 1 position for the Seminoles all season posting a record of 21-3 in dual-match competition. The Seminole duo, who earned Pair of the Week honors twice from the CCSA in 2016, finished the regular season winners of nine straight matches and 14 of their last 15. Brown and Pardon secured the match clinching victory eight times this year. They also went a perfect 7-0 at the No. 1 position against CCSA conference foes playing each school in the league once. Six of those seven matches were decided in straight sets, while three victories clinched the match for FSU against South Carolina, FIU and Georgia State.
Paranagua and Pellitteri are the only Seminole pair to play in all 25 regular season matches in 2016. The Seminole duo posted an overall and dual-match record of 23-2 on the year as they played all but one of their regular season matches at the No. 2 position (22-2). Paranagua and Pellitteri opened the season with 14 straight match victories as 13 of those matches were determined in straight sets. The pair went on to win CCSA Pair of the Week honors following the second week of competition after posting wins on the west coast against Long Beach State, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Loyola Marymount and USC. They pulled out a three-set victory against Southern Cal to help the Seminoles snap the Trojans’ 19-game home match win streak. Against CCSA foes, Paranagua and Pellitteri went 6-1 during the regular season.
Esposito finished the regular season with an overall record of 13-4 as she led all Seminole newcomers in wins. All 17 matches she played in this year came during dual-match competition as the Deerfield Beach, Fla., native played 15 of her 17 games at the No. 5 position where she posted a record of 11-4. She also went 2-0 at the No. 4 position. Five of her wins came with playing partner Hailey Luke against ranked foes as the duo defeated Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, FIU, UCLA and Grand Canyon.
This Seminole group played a pivotal role in helping Florida State post a single-season record 24 wins in 2016 surpassing the previous record of 19 set in 2014. All five student-athletes also guided the Noles to a 14-1 mark against ranked foes including seven wins against teams ranked in the top 10.
FSU returns to the sand this weekend in Emerson, Ga., site of the inaugural CCSA Conference Championship. The top-seeded Noles will open competition against LSU on Friday, April 22 at 8:00 a.m. at the Lakepoint Sporting Community.
