GREENSBORO, N.C. – It wasn’t just a successful year in the pool for Florida State’s men’s swimming and diving team as five student-athletes were chosen as Academic All-ACC selections on Thursday.
Seniors Alex Kennon (Winter Haven, FL) and Steve Roof (Canton, OH), juniors Ed Denton (Maidenhead, England) and Kyle Young (Oviedo, FL), and freshman diver Terry Horner (Orlando, FL) made the list of 40 competitors. The honor comes on the heels of the Florida State’s first ever Men’s ACC Championship in the water.
All five Seminoles excelled in the classroom and in the water. All were All-ACC performers in the pool and Horner became a National Champion winning the 1 meter-board title. Young earned All-America honors in the 1650, and Roof earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in the same event.
Kennon, a Biological Science major was also awarded an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship worth $7,500. Kennon will continue his education at Florida State’s Medical School.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Florida State also took home three other ACC postseason awards this year. Head Coach Neil Harper was named ACC Coach of the Year and Horner was selected as ACC Freshman and Diver of the Year.
