TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Five members of the Florida State diving team will compete against the nation’s top divers this week at the 2013 USA Winter Diving Nationals in Austin, Texas. The meet runs from Dec. 17-22 and is held at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas.
“Our group is ready to go,” head diving coach Patrick Jeffrey said. “This meet is always a good gauge to see where we are. This is a great way for our kids to go out there and compete against some of the best in the country. We finished up our finals and now we’re ready to compete.”
Seniors Ariel Rittenhouse and Kelsey Goodman will compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, while redshirt junior Katrina Young will dive platform and 3-meter. Senior Tom Neubacher will contest his specialty – 1-meter, while freshman Dominic Giordano will dive platform.
Rittenhouse, Goodman and Neubacher will all been seen in action tomorrow in the quarterfinals of 1-meter. The top eight finishes will move on to the finals later in the day.
Young will start her meet on Wednesday with her main event in the quarterfinals of platform. Giordano will join the meet on Thursday, while Goodman, Young and Rittenhouse will dive in the quarterfinals of 3-meter.
In every event with the exception of 1-meter, the top 18 will advance to the semifinals later that day, with the top 12 to advance to the final round later in the week.
“This is a great way for us to experience some competition we’ll see at the end of the year,” Jeffrey said. “Especially for Tom and Dom, they both could very well competing here at this pool at NCAA’s in March.”
