Florida State’s Caroline Westrup is tied for second in the individual standings and the No. 11 ranked Seminole women’s golf team is in ninth place after the first two rounds of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational at the University of North Carolina Golf Course. Westrup shot an even par 72 in the second round and coupled with her first round score of 73 has a 145 total for the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event. She begins play in the final round only one stroke out of the individual lead.
Westrup, who earned All-America honors as a freshman in 2006, has finished in fourth place or better in six of the eight tournaments she has entered as a collegian.
Vanderbilt, with a 595 total for the first two rounds, is in first place in the team standings. The Commodores lead No. 1 ranked Duke by three strokes entering the final round. The Blue Devils lead the six ACC teams in the event including the host North Carolina Tar Heels by two strokes. Duke’s Jennie Lee is the individual leader. She has shot even par in the first two rounds and has a 144 total. She leads Westrup of Florida State and Ashley Knoll of Texas A&M by one stroke.
Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) played nearly flawless golf in the second round of the event as she carded an even-par 72. She finished the afternoon with 14 holes of par, two birdies and only two bogies. Westrup 35 of her first 36 holes at par or better. She was even on both the front and back nine after starting her round on the 10th hole.
Seminole senior Jaclyn Burch carded a 77 in the second round and is tied for 20th in the individual standings. She was even par over her final 13 holes of the round after carding bogies on her first five holes of the round. Over her final 13 holes of the round she carded 11 pars, one birdie and only one bogie.
Senior Kayla Shaul (Cumming, Ga.) improved on her first round score by three strokes as she finished with a five-over par 77 in the second round. Coupled with her first round 80, Shaul is tied for 44th with a 157 two-round total. Junior Whitney Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) also bettered her first round score as she carded a 79 in the second round is tied for 71st heading into the third and final round. Junior Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) carded an 80 in the second round and has a two round total of 163.
The final round of the event is scheduled for a shotgun start Sunday morning.
