TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Led by catcher Michelle Diaz’ three RBI, the Florida Gators scored four runs off of five hits to take a 4-0 victory over Long Island Friday in Game Six of the 2004 NCAA Division I Softball Tallahassee Regional at the Seminole Softball Complex. Florida improved to 41-19 and will play at 8 p.m. while Long Island ended its season 27-28.
Amanda Moore went the distance for the Gators, allowing just two hits, striking out three and walking no one. She improved to 7-2. LIU’s Chelsea Crosby got the loss after pitching five and two-thirds innings and giving up four earned runs off of five hits, walking five and striking out one.
A two-out double to right field by Diaz scored right fielder Mandy Schuerman in the bottom of the second inning. UF picked up another run off of two hits in the fourth inning. Left fielder Lindsey Cameron led off with a single. Pinch-runner Shelley Stevens stole second and was brought home by a single to center by leadoff hitter Jenilee Garner. Diaz broke it open for the Gators in the sixth inning with a two-out, two-run homer to right field.
Long Island went three up and three down in all but the fourth inning. Sayde Marzolf and Margie Foster each recorded singles for the Blackbirds in the inning.
