Florida State Advances To ACC Championship Game With Shootout Victory Over Virginia

No. 19 Florida State advanced to the championship game of the 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference women’s soccer tournament with a shootout victory over No. 14 Virginia at Spry Stadium. The Seminoles outscored the Cavaliers, 3-2, in the shootout phase of the game after the teams played 150 scoreless minutes of regulation and four overtime periods.

Cindy Schofield, Ashlee Fontes and Meredith Jones scored for the Seminoles in the shootout. Seminole goalkeeper Ali Mims made three saves including one against Virginia’s two-time ACC player of the year, Lori Lindsay

Florida State plays the winner of tonight’s North Carolina vs. Wake Forest game Sunday at 1 p.m.
