Florida State Advances To Championship Game With 24-9 Win Over Bucknell

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State made up for going scoreless against Bucknell Friday night with an 24-9 convincing victory over the Bison Sunday afternoon in Game Five of the Tallahassee Baseball Regional at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles improved to 50-11 and advanced to the championship game vs. Tulane Sunday night at 7:07 p.m. (Sun Sports TV). Bucknell concluded its season at 30-24-2.

It as a home run hitting extravaganza as the two teams combined for seven over the fence. A six-run second inning got the Seminoles started and they never stopped on their way to 25 hits for the game and four home runs. Back-to-back home runs in the Seminole second scored four of the six FSU runs. Jason Stidham hit a three-run bomb while Buster Posey followed with his own blast.

Bucknell right fielder Andrew Brouse homered in the bottom of the second inning to put the Bison on the board but that was quickly overshadowed when the Seminoles added seven more runs in the third inning, highlighted by a Posey grand slam to make the score 13-1.

Ohmed Danesh joined the FSU home run party with a three-run shot of his own in the fourth inning. In the Bucknell fifth, the Bison hit back-to-back homers as well with blasts by designated hitter Jason Buursma and leftfielder Austin Turban.

Florida State got production from a number of players as 11 different Seminoles drove in runs. Designated hitter Tommy Oravetz drove in two runs as he went 3-for-5 on the day. Pinch hitter Stephen Cardullo and Jack Posey, who came in to the game in the seventh inning to play first base, also recorded two RBI apiece. The Bison finished the game with nine hits and Turban led the way with three hits and two RBI.

FSU starter Mike McGee improved to 7-1 with the victory. Dylan Seeley was charged with the loss and his record fell to 4-4.
