TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State softball team announced its 2015 schedule on Tuesday which includes 31 home games at JoAnne Graf Field, including two regular season tournaments. Fourteen of the 30 teams that the Seminoles are scheduled to play in 2015 participated in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, including eight teams that were ranked in the final NFCA poll of the season.
FSU opens the season with back-to-back weekend tournaments in Tallahassee, beginning with the Unconquered Classic on Feb. 7-8 as it hosts Georgia Southern and 2014 Women’s College World Series participant Kentucky.
The Seminoles will also host the Seminole Classic on Feb. 13-15 as Big Ten powers Nebraska and Michigan come to town, along with Western Kentucky. Florida State defeated Michigan in the 2014 NCAA Tallahassee Super Regional to advance to its first WCWS since 2004.
The first road trip for Florida State will carry the Seminoles all the way to the West Coast to participate in the 2015 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. The annual Classic is one of the most prestigious early-season tournaments that showcases several of the best softball programs in the country.
Florida State will face quality SEC programs Tennessee and South Carolina on Feb. 19, and will take on Oklahoma State on Feb. 20. The Seminoles close out the tournament against former NCAA national champions Cal and UCLA on Feb. 21.
“We’re very excited about the opportunity to play such strong competition early on in our schedule,” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “After the first three weekends, we’re going to see what we are all about and be able to make some adjustments as we jump into the ACC season.”
The ACC schedule begins on February 28-March 1 as Boston College comes to Tallahassee for a three-game series. The Seminoles have won 21 straight games against the Eagles.
The final tournament for the Seminoles will be on March 6-8 as they travel to Boca Raton, Fla., for the FAU Parents Weekend Tournament. Florida State will play Coastal Carolina and Bethune-Cookman on March 6, Memphis and host school FAU on March 7 and will wrap up the tournament with a rematch against Coastal Carolina on March 8.
The remaining home ACC schedule brings Notre Dame (March 14-15), Pitt (March 28-29) and Virginia (April 18-19) to JoAnne Graf Field as FSU looks to win the ACC regular season for the third consecutive season. The Seminoles will hit the road to face conference foes Virginia Tech (March 21-22), NC State (April 3-4), Louisville (April 11-12) and Georgia Tech (April 25-26).
“Coming back from Spring Break with Notre Dame will be an opportunity for us to showcase a rematch of last year’s ACC Championship game in front of our fans, added Alameda. “It will also be great to add Louisville to our schedule and we are excited for the competitive nature that they will bring to the conference. Playing in a new environment in the ACC is going to be really cool for us, in addition to being able to check out Louisville Slugger who has been an amazing equipment sponsor for our program.”
The remaining non-conference schedule is highlighted by the annual matchup with Florida, opening in Tallahassee on April 8 and ending in Gainesville on April 22. FSU will also take on 2014 NCAA Tournament members USC Upstate (DH on March 12) and Auburn (DH on March 25), with both series at JoAnne Graf field.
The Seminoles will also play FAMU (Feb. 10 and 25), FAU (March 10), Colgate (March 17), Troy (March 18) and Georgia State (DH on April 15) in non-conference action in 2015.
“Hosting strong non-conference opponents like Auburn and Florida, in addition to Nebraska, Kentucky, Michigan and others will be a good challenge and outstanding for our fan base,” said Alameda.
“We would love for everyone to come out for Senior Weekend against Virginia on April 18-19 as we honor our three amazing seniors and all that they have accomplished during their time here.”
The announcement of televised games will come closer to the beginning of the season. All regular season games at JoAnne Graf Field are free and no tickets are required.
