April 6, 2009
Monday, April 6th is National Student-Athlete Day. A program of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS), National Student-Athlete Day has been celebrated annually on April 6 since 1987. It is a day to celebrate the outstanding achievements of high school and college student-athletes who have excelled in academics (3.0 GPA or above) and athletics while having made significant contributions to their schools and communities.
Florida State Athletics is extremely impressed with the continued efforts and sacrifices of these amazingly talented student-athletes. Currently, Florida State University has 197 varsity student-athletes who have earned a minimum 3.0 semester GPA; 60 student-athletes who made the Spring 2008 Dean’s List; and 11 student-athletes who made the Spring 2008 President’s List. In addition, within the last three years Florida State Athletics is proud to have produced two Rhodes Scholars, former Track and Field student-athlete Garrett Johnson and former Football player Myron Rolle.
On this day, Monday, April 6th, 2009, the Office of Student Services and the Department of Athletics would like to salute all FSU student-athletes for their efforts, hard-work, and dedication. In addition to possessing superb athletic talents and/or being members of championship teams, these student-athletes have not only excelled in the classroom, but provided campus leadership and have contributed to servicing various agencies, schools, and individuals in the Tallahassee-Leon County area. It is with great pleasure that the Athletic Administration honor’s FSU student-athletes on National Student-Athlete Day.
