Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State baseball team completed physical testing for the fall upon return to classes for the fall semester. The Seminoles, who advanced to NCAA Super Regional play last season, will hold their first full squad practice on Sunday, September 23. The 15th annual Garnet & Gold game, which marks the end of fall practice, is scheduled for Friday, October 12 at 6:00 pm. The Garnet & Gold game will be held at Dick Howser Stadium and is free to the public with all donations going to the Dick Howser Center, a United Way agency.
Freshman Stephen Drew totaled 676.5 points to lead all position players in the physical testing. Ryan Barthelemy (671.0 points), Scott Toole (666.5 points) and Tony McQuade (642.0 points) followed Drew in the position player standings. Only the top two (Drew and Barthelemy) earned top-conditioned athlete status.
Among pitchers, Robby Read (695.0 points) and Eric Roman (565.0 points) totaled the most points to earn the top-conditioned distinction. Chris Whidden (631.5 points) and Blair Varnes (608.5 points) were third and fourth, respectively.
