TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- The Florida State baseball team was voted No. 4 in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Preseason College Coaches Poll as selected by 41 Division I head baseball coaches representing the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The Seminoles finished the 2000 season with a 53-19 record and a national ranking of No. 3 after advancing to the semifinals of the College World Series for the second straight season. FSU returns six position players and one starting pitcher from last year’s team.

“I think this year we have a good mix of young guys and veterans,” said head coach Mike Martin. “I expect this team to get better each week. If we do that, we’ll be a very good baseball time when April rolls around.”

ACC rival Georgia Tech was voted No. 1 followed by LSU, Southern California, FSU and Clemson. In addition to Georgia Tech and Clemson, the Seminoles are also scheduled to face No. 8 Miami, No. 9 Stanford and No. 14 Florida this season. FSU will play a total of 19 games against teams ranked among the top 15 in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Preseason College Coaches Poll.
