Here is a mid-summer update on current Seminoles participating in summer leagues. Hunter Jones and Daniel Wardell were selected to play in the Valley League All-Star Game, which took place over the weekend. Jones and Wardell along with Seminole teammate Glen Simon are currently playing with the Winchester Royals this summer.
Jones holds a record of 4-1 and leads his team with a 1.30 ERA in 27.2 innings of work. Wardell has a batting average of .281 and is one of only two players for the Royals with multi home runs with four.
Jones pitched the third inning for the Northern All-Stars and only allowed one hit as nine different pitchers were used in the game. Wardell saw time in right field while going 0-2 at the plate with a run scored.
In the Cape Cod League, Seminole reliever Rhett James is having an outstanding summer with the Orleans Cardinals. As of July 14th, James leads all pitchers in the Cape with 42 strikeouts, is tied for first with four wins and third with 35.1 innings pitched. James’ overall record is 4-1 with a 2.55 ERA and looks to play in the upcoming Cape League All-Star game, which is on Saturday July 26th.
Kevin Lynch and Mark Sauls are also having success this summer in the Cape Cod League. Lynch has appeared in six games with a record of 1-0 and an 0.00 ERA. Lynch also has 11 strikeouts in 11.1 innings of work. Sauls has struckout 27 batters in 28.0 innings with an ERA of 1.29 and a deceiving 0-2 record.
