Florida State Begins Stretch Run With Georgia Tech

The Seminoles are coming off a 101-68 loss at third-ranked Duke last Wednesday. It tied for the third worst in an ACC game for FSU since it joined the league in 1991-92…Freshman center Nigel Dixon led Florida State with a season-high 12 points in a season-long 17 minutes against the Blue Devils. The Orlando native is averaging 13.6 points and 14.6 rebounds per 40 minutes on the floor…The loss to Duke was the Seminoles second straight. In those two contests, FSU allowed an average of 92.5 points on 69-of-121 field goal shooting (57.0 percent), including 24-of-38 from three-point range (63.2 percent). Florida State’s opponents also handed out 45 assists and committed just 14 turnovers…Senior Ron Hale is mired in a four-game shooting slump. The Largo native has made just 9-of-42 from the field in that stretch (21.4 percent) and 4-of-24 from three-point range (16.7 percent) while averaging only 11.0 points…The Seminoles have shown marked improvement on the boards recently. They have outrebounded their last six foes by an average margin of by 5.5 per game.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 92-70 loss at Maryland on Wednesday. Sophomore guard Tony Akins led Tech with 17 points off the bench…Senior forward Jason Collier leads Georgia Tech in scoring and rebounding with averages of 16.4 points and 9.7 rebounds. He ranks fourth in the ACC in scoring and leads the league in rebounding…The Jackets hit 12 three-pointers in the first meeting with FSU and are averaging 7.7 per game from beyond the arc. They rank second in the conference in that category but are making just 33.5 percent from long range on the season…Bobby Cremins announced Friday that he would retire at the end of the season. Cremins is 352-233 in his 19-year Yellow Jacket career.

Monday’s game marks the 42nd meeting between Florida State and Georgia Tech. The Seminoles own a 23-18 advantage in the series, which dates back to Jan. 19, 1963…Georgia Tech took the first meeting of the season with a 65-62 victory in Atlanta on Jan. 19 behind 18 points from Shaun Fein…The Seminoles are 9-8 against Tech since joining the ACC in 1991-92. FSU is 4-4 against the Jackets in Tallahassee during that span…The two teams have split the last six games in the series. Four of those six have been decided by three points or less…Florida State is in seventh place in the conference standings while Georgia Tech enters the game in eighth place.
