DALLAS, TX – Florida State’s David Castillo is one of 35 players recognized on the 2004 Dave Rimington Trophy Watch List. The Rimington Trophy is awarded annually to the top center in the country. The recipient is determined by a consensus of the four All-America teams: The Walter Camp Football Foundation, America Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America, and The Sporting News.
Castillo, a junior from Palm Beach, Florida, earned second team All-ACC honors in 2003. Castillo started 12 of 13 games last season at center for the ACC Champion Seminoles, including the Orange Bowl. He is one of nine returning starters on an FSU offense that finished second in the ACC in scoring offense (32.2 points per game).
Virginia Tech’s Jake Grove was last year’s Rimington Trophy winner. Dominic Raiola (Nebraska), LeCharles Bentley (Ohio State) and Brett Romberg (Miami) have also won the Rimington, now its fifth year of existence.
Five other ACC players were named to the Rimington Watch List. North Carolina’s Jason Brown, NC State’s Jed Paulsen, Miami’s Joel Rodriguez, Maryland’s Kyle Schmitt and Virginia’s Zac Yarbrough were the other conference centers joining Castillo on the list.
