FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES 2-1, 0-0 ACC

The Seminoles are coming off an 83-59 defeat of Jacksonville last Saturday and brings a two-game win streak into the tilt. Ron Hale posted the fourth double-double of his career against the Dolphins, scoring 21 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Hale leads FSU in both those categories at 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game…Florida State blocked nine shots against Jacksonville (three each by Hale and David Anderson), has rejected at least seven in each game this season and is averaging 8.0 per game. The Seminoles did not block more than seven in a game last year and the nine against JU were their most in 36 games (since blocking 11 against Virginia on Feb. 28, 1998)…Sophomore center David Anderson has nine rejections so far, nearly halfway to starting post players Oliver Simmons and Justin Mott’s combined total of 21 last season…FSU snapped a perimeter shooting slump by nailing 9-of-13 from three-point range against JU (69.2 percent). The Seminoles had hit just 6-of-26 (23.1 percent) from beyond the arc in their first two games.

TEMPLE OWLS 1-1, 0-0 A-10

The Owls are coming off a 67-58 loss to Indiana last Friday in the Tip-Off Classic in Springfield, Mass. Junior guard Lynn Greer came off the bench to lead Temple with 25 points and hit six three-pointers…The Owls played without point guard Pepe Sanchez, a four-year starter, against Indiana. Sanchez, the school’s all-time leader in steals (287) and fourth in assists (498), suffered a sprained right ankle late in Temple’s season-opening win over Miami of Ohio. Sanchez is listed as day-to-day…Temple head coach John Chaney ranks sixth on the list of winningest active NCAA Division I coaches with a .734 winning percentage (606-220). He ranks 22nd all-time on the NCAA’s Division I coaching wins list.

THE GAME

Monday’s game marks just the third meeting between Florida State and Temple but the second in as many seasons. All three of the games between the two schools have come in the 1990s…The series is tied at one win apiece. Temple won last year 75-66 on Dec. 14 in Philadelphia. FSU’s victory came on Dec. 20, 1992 in Orlando in the inaugural Milk Challenge with a 91-80 overtime decision…Temple is the second team ranked in the Top 10 that Florida State has faced in its first four games. The Seminoles will play a third Top 10 club on Sunday at Auburn…Temple guard Lynn Greer, who missed the 1998-99 campaign with an eye injury, is the cousin of former Seminole standout LaMarr Greer, whose eligibility expired two seasons ago.
