TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Alexander Johnson led six double-figure scorers with 15 points as Florida State cruised to a 108-73 victory Thursday over Campbell.
Extending its winning streak to six games, Florida State (8-1) finished the non-conference portion of its schedule to secure its best start since opening the 2003-04 season with 10 consecutive victories.
Campbell (3-6) closed an early 21-point deficit to 36-25 on Maurice Latham’s driving layup with 3:52 to play in the half.
The Seminoles countered by scoring the final 11 points of the first half for a 51-27 lead. The closing run included a pair of free throws from Ralph Mims that established a new school record of 33 consecutive free throws made. Jim Oler held the previous record of 31 consecutive free throws made, set during the 1953-54 season.
Johnson had six points as the Seminoles ran off 14 unanswered points in a three-minute stretch to start the second half.
Latham led the Fighting Camels with 19 points.
The Seminoles are idle until Dec. 31, when they take on Nebraska (9-2) in the Orange Bowl Classic at Sunrise, Fla.
Thursday’s win was the Seminoles’ highest-scoring victory since a 108-84 win over Jacksonville on Dec. 14, 1996.
