TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Ron Hale scored 21 points as Florida State moved
into sole possession of third place in the Atlantic Coast Conference Wednesday
night, with a 74-68 win over Wake Forest.
Florida State (10-7 overall, 4-2 ACC) shot 73.7 percent in the second half
to hold off Wake Forest (11-7, 2-4), which got 27 points from point guard
The Seminoles, who made eight of 14, 3-point field goals overall and
outrebounded the Deacs 26-16, held a 32-23 lead at halftime and led by as many
as 14 points in the first half.
Wake Forest took its only lead of the second half with 6:35 remaining, when
O’Kelley sank a 3-pointer to make it 56-54.
But, 27 seconds later, Hale answered with a 3-pointer to give FSU the lead
for good, 57-56.
Another Hale 3-pointer with 4:17 left to play pushed Florida State’s lead to
65-58, but O’Kelley brought the Deacs to within 66-64 with 2:23 left on two
Yet it was Florida State which had the final say from beyond the 3-point arc
as Adrian Crawford made a 3-pointer with 1:46 showing to boost the Seminole
lead back to 69-64.
Baker, who had 14 points, then put the game away for FSU with four straight
free throws and Hale added two more with three seconds remaining.
FSU also got 25 points from reserves Adrian Crawford (14 points) and Damous
Anderson (11 points).
