TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Seven Florida State divers will attempt to qualify for the 2009 NCAA Championships on the one-meter, three-meter and platform at the Zone B Qualifying meet in Knoxville, Tenn., March 13-15.
The men will be led by ACC platform champion senior Dan Frebel and five-time All-ACC performer junior Terry Horner. Frebel and Horner both earned a pair of All-ACC performances at the conference championships and shattered their previous school records in the process. Senior Scott Derner will also be attempting to qualify for the men. There are 11 qualifying positions up for grabs on the men’s side.
On the women’s side, junior and All-ACC performer Katie Sirounis will lead the women. She will be joined by fellow junior Aleia Monden, sophomore Katherine Adham and freshma Elysse Rowland. There are 10 qualifying positions available on the women’s side.
At last years Zone Qualifying meet Horner and Monden were the only Seminoles to earn a berth to the NCAA Championships. Horner earned All-American honors with a third-place finish on the one-meter and honorable mention All-American honors on the three-meter finishing 16th. Monden was a honorable mention All-American on the platform where she placed 11th.
The event will begin on Friday, March 13, at 1:00 p.m., with the preliminary rounds of the women’s three-meter and men’s one-meter. For live stats and meet recaps visit www.seminoles.com.
