TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  – The Florida State diving team will compete against some of the best diving programs in the south at the Georgia Tech Diving Invitational in Atlanta from Friday, November 21, through Sunday, November 23.

“I think this is a great opportunity for us to see where we’re at in the middle of the season,” FSU diving coach Patrick Jeffrey said.  “We’ve done a lot of hard work and I’m ready for the kids to feel fresh and see what they can do.”

The Seminoles will compete against Georgia Tech, Miami, Alabama, Auburn and Florida on the one-meter, three-meter and platform events.  This will be the first time this season that Florida State has competed on the platform.

“It’s always exciting to get into an event where we can compete on platform,” Jeffrey said.  “I’ve got some great divers whose emphasis is platform [Aleia Monden and Dan Frebel] and they put a lot of time and effort into [platform] so it’s nice to see them perform.”

The Garnet and Gold are coming off a weekend in which they won all four diving events and went one-two-three in three of the four events against Virginia and Penn State.  Junior Terry Horner led the team with his school record breaking score of 423.75 on the one-meter board.  Senior Dan Frebel won the three-meter for the men while junior Katie Sirounis and freshman Lisi Rowalnd won the one and three-meter boards, respectively for the women.

“I think that our new facility has made a huge difference for us,” Jeffrey said.  “We’re able to do dry land work right next to our facility and we’ve got `the bubbles.’  The Sparging System is a really key element in learning dives and we can practice dives that maybe you wouldn’t be able to do if we didn’t have that reassurance that you won’t get injured when you hit the water.”

The invitational will begin on Friday at 12:00 p.m., with the men’s one-meter and women’s three-meter preliminary competitions.  For a meet recap and results log onto
