Box Score

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Seminole softball team fought back from a shutout but was unable to get the win over Georgia Tech as they fell 6-2 on Saturday in day two of the ACC series. Florida State split a doubleheader on Saturday with the Yellow Jackets and is now 32-19 overall and 8-7 in conference play.

Getting the Seminoles on the board was sophomore co-captain Carly Wynn whose two-RBI home run in the bottom of the seventh prevented Tech from pulling off a shutout on JoAnne Graf Field. The homer was her fourth this season as her average improves to .367, a close second to team leader Whitney Buckmon’s .368.

Sophomore Terese Gober started on the mound for Florida State and was credited with the loss after giving up three runs, one earned, on five hits and striking out three Yellow Jackets. Freshman and Tallahassee native Sarah Hamilton entered for the Seminoles in the second and would face just four batters and give up one earned run before assistant coach Barbara Sherwood would send out senior Tiffany McDonald to relieve.

Florida State led with nine strikeouts to the Yellow Jackets’ four with McDonald striking out six batters, giving up two earned runs on four hits and walking one. Hamilton now leads the FSU pitching staff with a 1.46 ERA with McDonald trailing by a small margin at 1.49 while Gober slips to 2.35.

Buckmon, Brittany Osmon and Ashley Stager each recorded a hit against Georgia Tech. Osmon is now hitting a .329 average after 51 starts while Stager is now hitting .264.

The Seminoles will regroup as they host No. 8 Florida in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 16 at the Seminole Softball Complex. The first game will be televised live on SunSports with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. Florida State leads the all-time series with the Gators 13-9 and has only lost three times to the Gainesville team on JoAnne Graf Field.
