Florida State Drops Two At NFCA Leadoff Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Florida State softball went 0-2 on the second day of
competition in the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, GA. The Lady Seminoles
dropped their first game 1-0 to Texas and fell to Mississippi State 4-0.
Florida State and Texas remained scoreless until the sixth inning when Texas
scored in a sacrifice bunt from Audry Hendricks to give the Longhorn’s a 1-0
lead. The Lady Seminoles held on in the top of the seventh inning but did
not score in the seventh, giving Texas the 1-0 win. FSU’s Brandi Stuart led
the team in game one with one hit and a stolen base.

The Lady Seminoles advanced to the silver bracket in the afternoon and took
on Mississippi State in the first game of bracket play. The two teams
remained scoreless until the sixth inning when Mississippi State’s Kasey
Whitehead hit a grand slam homerun over the centerfield wall to give the
Bulldogs a 4-0 win. Jen White-Stokes took the loss, striking out three and
walking three.

Florida State is now 15-7 on the season. The Lady Seminoles will face
Louisiana-Lafayette at 9:00am on Sunday morning in the consolation bracket
of the silver division.
