Florida State Earns 13 All-American Honors At NCAA Indoors

March 19, 2009

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After a good showing at the NCAA Indoor National Meet last weekend in College Station, Texas, Florida State was honored for its efforts on the track and field as a total of 13 Seminoles were named All-Americans.

“It’s a great accomplishment to have so many athletes earn All-American honors,” head coach Bob Braman said. “When you combine our men and women earning that honor, we have just as many as any university in the nation.”

The men continued to have success at the indoor meet with their third place finish. Although no Seminole walked away with a national champion title, Florida State did seem to finish in highly respected places as nine men were named All-Americans. The Seminoles named to the list were sophomore Matt Leeder in the 3,000m run, junior team captain Charles Clark for his 200m dash, senior Michael Ray Garvin in the 60m dash, heptathlete’s Gonzalo Barroilhet and Pelle Rietveld as well as the 4x400m relay group consisting of Kevin and Jonathan Borlee, Kevin Williams and Brandon O’Conner.

As the only national champion for Florida State at the meet which helped the women finish in eighth place, sophomore Kim Williams was named an All-American for the second-consecutive year in the triple jump. Senior Susan Kuijken in the 3,000m run, sophomore Pilar McShine in the mile and junior Tiara Swanagan for her triple jump were among the other women named to the list.

Repeated winners for the Garnet and Gold aside from Williams are Kuijken and Swanagan on the women’s front and Barroilhet and Clark for the men.
