Feb. 18, 2009

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Jason Lakritz (New Windsor, NY) and Matt Leeder (Ontario, Canada) have been named to the 2008 All-ACC Academic Men’s Cross Country list as announced by Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John D. Swofford.

“We are thrilled to have both Matt and Jason earn this honor,” men’s head coach Bob Braman said. “Matt is one of the best distance runners in the country who also makes time to excel academically. Jason is an outstanding student making time to elevate his cross country running to an All-Region level.”

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career.

Jason Lakritz is currently a senior in the classroom and majoring in exercise science. This is the first of such an honor for Lakritz.

Matt Leeder, studying psychology, has been named for the second year consecutively. Leeder is one of seven repeaters from last year’s academic honorees. In addition to being named All-ACC Academic, Leeder also earned All-ACC for his seventh place finish at the conference meet.

“What great examples they are in showing two different routes to becoming the ultimate student-athlete,” Braman said.
