TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State Director of Athletics Dave Hart announced today that the contracts for both men’s basketball head coach Steve Robinson and women’s basketball head coach Sue Semrau are being extended by two years.
“This decision represents an acknowledgment of the substantial rebuilding jobs both coaches have undertaken and an appreciation for the manner in which they have gone about their respective tasks,” Hart said.
Both Robinson and Semrau were hired at Florida State during the summer of 1997. Semrau’s hiring was announced on June 16 while Robinson was hired on July 1. The extensions return each of the coaches’ contracts to their initial length of five years.
Robinson, 41, has posted a 31-31 record in his two seasons in Tallahassee and guided the Seminoles to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. It was their first appearance in the tournament since the 1992-93 season. FSU went 13-17 this year and won its first Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament game since 1992 last week with an 87-85 overtime victory over Clemson.
Semrau, 37, is 16-38 in her two seasons at Florida State and in her first year, led the Seminoles to their best record since 1992-93 (9-18). She signed four players, including the top two players in the state of Florida, to National Letters of Intent this fall — a recruiting class that has been ranked among the nation’s top 10 by several publications.
