FSU Baseball Release No. 2 in PDF Format

Auburn, Ala. – Thursday marks the 107th meeting between Florida State and Auburn with the Seminoles leading the all-time series with a mark of 67-39. Florida State is 23-14 at Auburn, while maintaining the advantage at home with a record of 43-24. The two teams split a two-game series played in Auburn back in 2006 with the Tigers winning game one 5-2 and the Seminoles taking game two by a score of 8-3. The Garnet and Gold have won 16 of the last 20 games in the series. Under head coach Mike Martin, Florida State is 27-6 against the Tigers including a record of 20-4 at home.

In 2006, Florida State went 1-1 vs. Auburn as the Seminoles traveled to Samford Stadium in early February. The Seminole bats fell silent during the two-game series as FSU hit just .177 as a team. Dennis Guinn and Jack Rye each hit .250 in the series. Guinn collected two hits in eight at-bats driving in a team high three RBIs. Rye hit the only home run in the two-game series driving in two while drawing three base-on-balls. Buster Posey started both games at shortstop scoring a pair of runs.

Rye hit well against the Tigers during his freshman campaign in 2005 as the Seminoles took four of five from Auburn. Rye hit .429 with four RBIs. He walked three times and scored a run. Ruairi O’Connor went 2-for-4 in four games played. Ryan Strauss is the only pitcher on the FSU staff to face the Tigers over the last three seasons as he worked just 0.2 inning in relief.

Seminoles On The Road
Florida State is 16-12 when playing its first road game of the season under head coach Mike Martin. The Seminoles have won two of their last three road openers but are only 4-4 in their last eight games. Last year, Florida State defeated Florida 14-6 in the Seminoles first road game of the season.

13 Away From 1500
Florida State’s Mike Martin is approaching yet another milestone as he enters his 29th season as head coach of the Seminole baseball program. Following a three-game sweep of Duquesne to open 2008, the Hall of Fame coach needs just 13 victories to become the third Division I coach to reach 1,500 career victories joining Texas’ Augie Garrido (1,632) and Wichita State’s Gene Stephenson (1,606). Martin owns a career record of 1,487-506-4 good for an all-time winning percentage of .746 which ranks third in the NCAA among active Division I coaches.
