TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 31 Florida State men’s tennis team (9-2, 1-0) goes for win number 10 of the season against No. 32 Georgia Tech (5-5, 0-0) this Saturday at noon. Georgia Tech comes to the Scott Speicher Tennis Center with two ranked players. The Seminoles are 28-28 all-time against the Yellow Jackets having first met in 1954.
Last season, Georgia Tech topped the Seminoles 6-1 while the year before FSU won 5-2. Juniors Andres Bucaro, Jordan Kelly-Houston and Anderson Reed are the only current members of the squad to post a win against Georgia Tech. Bucaro leads the way with three wins while Kelly-Houston and Reed each have one win apiece.
This season, Bucaro is leading the way with a 9-0 record in singles with sophomore Blake Davis next at 8-3. With seven wins each are senior Jason Zafiros (7-1), freshman Cristian Gonzalez Mendez (7-3) and Kelly-Houston (7-3). Reed (6-0) and freshman Dominic Cotrone (3-0) have yet to record a loss this season. Benjamin Lock is having a solid freshman season with a 4-2 mark.
Georgia Tech’s Kevin King is ranked No. 7 in the nation while Juan Spir is No. 88. In doubles, King and Spir are ranked No. 2 in the nation.
All matches are played at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center unless weather forces the matches to be played at the Indoor Tennis Facility located next to the Seminole Golf Course.
