COLLEGE PARK, Md. (Seminoles.com) — The Florida State men’s basketball team dropped an 83-71 ballgame at Maryland Saturday afternoon.
The Seminoles (14-9, 5-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) now return home to host rival Miami Monday night. The `Noles-`Canes showdown was originally scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. but has been moved to a 7 p.m. tip off at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
Against the Terrapins (14-10, 6-5), Aaron Thomas scored 17 points while adding eight rebounds and three steals. FSU got some balanced offense with Devon Bookert (14), Okaro White (12) and Montay Brandon (11) all posting double-digits scoring marks and Michael Ojo contributing eight points.
But it wasn’t quite enough as Maryland’s Seth Allen erupted for 32 points in the final regular season meeting between the two programs as ACC foes. The Terrapins move to the Big Ten Conference next season.
Dez Wells added 15 points and Jake Layman had 12 points for Terps squad that shot nearly 52 percent from the field and was 42 percent from 3-point range.
FSU shot 38 percent from the floor and made 5-of-12 3-point attempts for a 42-percent shooting clip from long range of its own. The `Noles hit the glass hard in the loss, out-rebounding Maryland 38-31 and generating 20 total offensive boards.
Maryland had 13 turnovers to FSU’s 16.
