Tallahassee, Fla. – Coming off a 2-2 home tournament weekend, the Florida State softball team prepares to face in-town rival Florida A&M on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 6:00 p.m. The game, originally scheduled at FAMU, will count as an away game for the Seminoles although it will be played on JoAnne Graf Field.

The Seminoles started off the 2008 campaign as they hosted the Early Bird Tournament last weekend, winning the crown after defeating Louisville 6-4 in the championship game on Saturday night.

Florida State’s other victory of the weekend was over Southern Miss on Friday and was a very notable win for head coach JoAnne Graf who hit the 1,400 career wins mark. Graf, who is only 12 wins away from notching 1,200 fastpitch victories, was joined by her mother and former coach, Florida State Hall of Famer, Billie Jones to commemorate the achievement.

Earning All-Tournament team honors from FSU was Whitney Buckmon, Terese Gober and Brittany Osmon with Osmon winning the MVP award after her three-run homer in the top of the seventh clinched the win for the Seminoles.

Buckmon started her senior season leading the team with a .600 average after going 9-for-15 with four runs and one RBI over the weekend. The centerfielder also added two stolen bases to her resume, bringing her career total to 47.

Gober pitched 22.0 innings over the weekend and was credited with both wins for the Seminoles. The sophomore also set a new career-high with 12 strikeouts against Southern Miss on Friday.

The Seminoles head into Tuesday’s game with the Rattlers leading the all-time series 93-7. The last time FAMU got the win over Florida State was in 2006 with a 0-4 shutout at home on Moore-Kittles Field. Live stats and a free radio broadcast will cover the game and can be found at Seminoles.com
