Oct. 6, 2002

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –
The No. 15 ranked Florida State University women’s golf team finished in a tie for ninth place in the team standings and senior Kristin Tamulis finished in a tie for 15th-place in the individual standings as play wrapped up at the Franklin Street Trust/Tar Heel Invitational at Finley Golf Course.

Florida State earned its second top-10 finish of the season following its fourth place finish at last week’s ACC/SEC Challenge. The Seminoles have now finished in the top-10 in the team standings in five consecutive regular season tournaments. Florida State is ranked No.15 in this week’s GolfWeek/Sagarin national rankings.

Tamulis (Naples, Fla.) earned her 15th career top-15 finish. She carded a five-over par 77 in the final round to finish with a 222 score for the 54-hole tournament. It marks the eighth time she has totaled 222 or less during her 31 collegiate tournaments. Tamulis carded a career-low tying 70 in Friday’s first round.

Junior Alison Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) played well for the second consecutive week as she finished in a tie for 27th-place to earn her second consecutive and fifth career top-30 individual finish. She carded a collegiate career-best 69 in Saturday’s second round.

Duke University shot a 300 for a total of 13-over-par 877 to event by one stroke over top-ranked Oklahoma State. The win marked the Blue Devil’s sixth straight in the event dating back to 1997. Duke entered the day with a five-stroke lead over Oklahoma State, who fired a team total 296 to finish within one of first place. Ohio State finished third, posting a 295 for a 24-over 888 total. Tulane came in fourth with a 294 on Sunday for a total of 889. Host North Carolina rounded out the top five, shooting 298 on Sunday for an 890 total. Duke freshman Liz Janangelo finished with a six-under-par, three-day total of 210 to win the individual race despite shooting a three-over 75 on Sunday.

Florida State continues its four-event fall schedule as it plays in the Lady Paladin Invitational in Furman, S.C. Oct. 25-27.
