Florida State Finishes Seventh At Men’s Golf Tournament
Seminoles swing clubs well in Tampa, best tourney of fall season.
TAMPA, Fla. — The Florida State University men’s golf team enjoyed
its best tournament of the fall 2000 season with a 12-over par 876 team
score and finished seventh at the second annual Gary Koch/Cleveland
Intercollegiate at Old Memorial Golf Course. The Seminoles were led by
senior Mark Donaldson and junior Rick Westbrook who finished tied for 19th
with three-over par scores of 219.
The Seminoles, who were in second place after the first two rounds,
shot a 300 in Tuesday’s third round. The seventh place finish and 876
overall score were Florida State’s best this season.
Including Donaldson and Westbrook, the Seminoles had four golfers
finish within 15 strokes of the individual winner. Juniors Kris Hannah
(five-over par 221) and Rusty Mosley (eight-over par 224) joined Donaldson
and Westbrook as Florida State’s top finishers. Freshman Jason Lopez
played well in his first collegiate tournament and shot a career-low 71
during the second round.
No. 17 Florida won the tournament championship with an eight stroke
victory over Mississippi. Senior Nick Gilliam sparked the Gators with a
third round score of 67 and a tournament score of 212. Troy Muller of
Mississippi earned individual medalist honors with a three-round score of
The Seminoles close out their fall schedule as the travel to the
Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate for a three-round tournament on
Oct. 30 and 31.
