Florida State Hosts Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – For the 32nd consecutive season, Florida State and Florida A&M will meet on the softball diamond for a game between the cross-town opponents. The No. 13 Seminoles (7-3) will host the Rattlers (5-5) on JoAnne Graf Field on Wednesday, February 24 at 6:00 p.m.

“Florida A&M is a scrappy team that always battles,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “They’ve won their conference title in each of the last two seasons and we enjoy competing against them. We’ll need to focus and execute tomorrow night if we want to be successful.”

FSU leads the all-time series with FAMU, 106-7, as the Seminoles have won the last 18 meetings in the series, dating back to 2006. Last season, the Noles and Rattlers played a pair of games in the regular season, with FSU earning a 12-5 victory on the road at Florida A&M and winning 11-0 at JoAnne Graf Field.

The Noles are a multiple threat offense, with freshman Zoe Casas holding the team lead with 10 RBI, but five others have driven in at least six runs on the season. Alex Kossoff has a team-high batting average of .385, but she is closely trailed by Alex Powers and Morgan Klaevemann, who each are batting .379 so far this season.

In the circle, Jessica Burroughs and Meghan King have solidified themselves as the top two pitchers on the staff as Burroughs is 4-2 this season with a 2.66 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 29.0 innings and has only allowed six walks. King has a record of 3-1 with 20 strikeouts and 10 earned runs in 27.2 innings for an ERA of 2.53. King has gone the distance in two of her four starts this year.

Florida A&M has five batters hitting over .350 this season, including Amber Fullwood’s .394 mark. Toni Anderson leads the team with eight runs batted in, while Kieffi Myrick tops the squad with a slugging percentage of .722. Junior pitcher Kenya Pereira is the ace of the Rattler staff, holding a 3-2 record, 4.12 ERA with 26 strikeouts as teams are hitting just .244 against her on the season.

Admission is free for all regular season games at JoAnne Graf Field. A free live radio broadcast from Maddie O’Brien and Robin Ahrberg, as well as live stats will be available on Seminoles.com.
