TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis program is holding its inaugural Military Appreciation Event at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on Friday, Oct. 24 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The Seminoles would like to invite all military service members, past and present, for a clinic with the team.
“I want to make sure we do our part to reach out and really thank the people that have been involved, are involved or are going to be involved in military service, and try to make them feel special not just on one occasion a year,” FSU head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “I want them to be able to come out and be a part of our student-athlete’s lives, and just really thank them for all that they do. None of us would have the opportunity to do what we do as coaches and players if it wasn’t for their service and their commitment to our freedom.”
The event will consist of a hit-around clinic with the women’s tennis team and staff, free dinner and prizes.
This is the first time the Florida State women’s tennis program has done this event and Hyde said they will look to do more moving forward.
“We are going to try and do things like this two or three times a year,” Hyde said. “This is going to lead up to our match against the Air Force Academy in February. At that time, we are going to do a big celebration to thank those kids on their team for coming to play us and their service.”
The Seminoles will host Air Force on Feb. 21 and has a match set against the Naval Academy in 2016.
“I want to make sure that our women’s tennis program is doing our part to put our military service members front and center throughout the year and not just one match a year,” Hyde said. “This is our way of giving back. We really hope we have a nice turnout for the event.”
