Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team opens their season against Jacksonville this Saturday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. The match will take place at Scott Speicher Tennis Court and admittance is free.
Taking on Jacksonville
Florida State has had its fair share of success against Jacksonville. Florida State leads Jacksonville 6-0 dating back to 1989 when the first match took place. The Seminoles have not played the Dolphins in dual play since 2002 when FSU won 5-1. The teams have squared off in tournament play this season at the Florida State Seminole Invitational this fall and the Florida State Spring Tournament this past weekend.
Moving Up The Rankings
The Seminoles moved up 11 ranks this season to No. 61 in that nation. In singles action, freshman Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) is No. 58. Doubles partners senior Nicola Slater (Ayr, Scotland) and Macfarlane are No. 27. In the south region rankings, Macfarlane holds No. 15 while junior Carolin Walter (Bingen, Germany) is No. 22. Sophomore Ania Rynarzewska (Inowroclaw, Poland) ranks at No. 28 in the south. Slater/Macfarlane rank at No, 3 in doubles for the south region.
Atlantic Sun Conference Opponents
Florida State has an all-time record of 17-1 against Atlantic Sun Conference schools. The Seminoles are undefeated against Jacksonville and Stetson with the one loss against North Florida in 1988. FSU will face Stetson this season on Feb. 17.
