TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Maintaining the No. 1 ranking in the country for the third week in a row, top-ranked Florida State (17-1-1) will play a doubleheader against North Florida (10-11) on Wednesday, March 8, beginning at 4:00 p.m. on JoAnne Graf Field.
Wednesday’s games will be part of FSU Softball’s Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day where members of the university will be celebrated for their support of the softball team. Players have invited professors, teaching assistants, residence assistants and other staff from throughout FSU to come to the game and throw out a “first pitch” between games one and two of the doubleheader.
Florida State and North Florida have played 12 times previously, with the Seminoles holding an 11-1 advantage in the series.
Alex Powers leads the Seminole offense with a .519 batting average, 27 hits, 11 doubles and 19 runs scored. The redshirt senior had driven in 16 RBI in her last 11 games and has a slugging percentage of .843.
Juniors Jessica Warren and Morgan Klaevemann are also key members of FSU attack at the plate as Warren tops the team with four home runs and 17 RBI, while Klaevemann leads the team with 16 stolen bases and is second in both hits (23) and runs scored (15).
Redshirt senior Jessica Burroughs and redshirt sophomore Meghan King provide a solid 1-2 punch in the circle for Florida State as both pitchers have an ERA under 1.00 on the season. King leads the team with a 0.73 ERA and a 7-0 record, while Burroughs is 9-1 on the year with a 0.86 ERA and has already received two ACC Pitcher of the Week honors this season as she has recorded 80 strikeouts in 57.0 innings and batters are hitting just .123 against her.
