Florida State In Seventh Place After Two Rounds Of Seminole Intercollegiate Men’s Golf Tournament

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Florida State University men’s golf team in seventh place in the team standings and is only nine strokes out of the top five after the first two rounds of the Seminole Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament at Golden Eagle Country Club. The Seminoles shot a six-over par 294 team score in Monday’s second round and are currently ranked third among the four Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the 15-team field.


Junior Peter Mitchell shot a two-under par 70 in the second round and begins play in round three in a tie for 12th-place. His two-under par score of 70 is his best round of the season.


Seminole sophomore Alan Beers played well during the two rounds played Monday and is in a tie for 27th-place heading into Tuesday’s action. He was consistent on the day with scores of 76 and 74 for a six-over par score of 150.


Also playing well for the Seminoles Monday was freshman Eric Beaty. He fashioned an even-par 72 in the second round and is well on his way to climbing up the individual standings in the event. Senior Rick Westbrook is in a tie for 44th-place after firing a three-over par 75 in round one. Also playing well for the Seminoles is junior Brad Lusenhop.


Duke is seeded first in the tournament after two rounds. The Blue Devils blistered the course with a 287 team score in the second round and lead North Carolina by three strokes heading into the third round. Duke’s Leif Olson and North Carolina’s Bob Cherry are in second and third place, with scores of 138 and 141 respectively. Duke has three players in the top 20 while North Carolina has two of the top six and three of the top 21 players in the individual standings.


Graeme McDowell of the University of Alabama Birmingham is the medallist after two rounds. He has carded scores of 68 and 69 for a seven-under par score of 137. McDowell holds a one shot lead over Olson of Duke. Virginia’s Steve Marino, who won the individual title at last year’s Seminole Intercollegiate, is currently tied for eighth in the individual standings with a two-round total of 144. The Cavaliers are in a tie for ninth in the team standings.


Play in the event concludes Tuesday with 18 final holes. Admission is free and the course is open to spectators to watch the entire tournament.
