Florida State Men’s Golf Team Finishes Sixth at ACC Championship

Florida State University men’s golf team finished in sixth place in the team standings at the 49th annual Atlantic Coast Conference championship – its best team finish since coming in fifth in 1995. Junior Peter Mitchell finished in a tie for ninth place in the team standings as he finished the event with a career-best 211 score for the 54-hole event.


Florida State finished the tournament with three of its top seven single round team scores this season including a season-best 282 in the second round. The Seminoles three-round total of 868 was their best at the ACC championship since totaling an 866 in 1988 and was 29 strokes better than their team score during last year’s tournament when the finished in eighth place. In addition, the Seminoles two-spot improvement in the team standings in the best of any of the nine ACC teams from last season to this season.


Mitchell, who has finished in the top 15 of three of his last four tournaments, completed the best tournament of his career. He tied his career-low score for a single round with identical scores of 70 in rounds one and two, completed his top 36-hole (140) and 54-hole (211) scores and finished a career-best five-under par for the tournament. Mitchell (Miami, Fla.) is a combined four-under par over the last two tournaments and has shot five of his last six rounds at 72 or below.


Freshman Eric Beaty (Germantown, Tenn.), who shot his tournament-best 69 in round two, came on strong in the final two rounds of the tournament and finished in a tie for 23rd place. He finished tied with teammate Rick Westbrook (Alto, Ga.) who carded a two-under par 70 in round one an even par 72 in round two.


Florida State closes out its season as it plays in the Atlanta Intercollegiate in Stockbridge, Ga., May 9-10.
