Florida State continues its busy spring 2001 schedule as it travels to the Conrad Rehling Alabama Spring Invitational March 23-25 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The event is being played on the par-72, 7,041-yard Ol’ Colony Golf Course.
THE ALABAMA SPRING INVITATIONAL FIELD
Florida State is joined by Alabama, Alabama-Birmingham, Central Florida, College of Charleston, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Georgia State, Southeastern Louisiana, South Florida, South Alabama, Troy State and Vanderbilt in the 24th annual event.
FLORIDA STATE AT THE SEMINOLE INTERCOLLEGIATE
Florida State senior Mark Donaldson finished in a tie for 10th place and the Seminole men’s golf team finished in a tie for seventh place at the seventh annual Seminole Intercollegiate at the Golden Eagle Country Club. Individual medallist Steve Marino led Virginia to the team championship during the three-round, 54-hole tournament. Donaldson (Kirkaldy, Scotland) enjoyed a strong tournament for the Seminoles with three scores of 75 or below. Sophomore Andy Lewis (Garland, Texas) finished tied for 39th place as he turned in his second strong performance in as many weeks. Junior Rick Westbrook (Alto, Ga.) finished in a tie for 43rd-place with a three-round total of 230.
LEWIS CONTINUES TO PLAY WELL
Sophomore Andy Lewis is averaging a team-leading 73.67 strokes per round in the last two tournaments for the Seminoles. During his last two outings, he has shot three rounds (out of six) of below-par golf. Lewis has carded three of the top six scores for the Seminoles this spring and earned the top individual finish (fourth place) among all team members at the Louisiana Spring Invitational.
WESTBROOK SHOOTING A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF STRONG SCORES
Junior Rick Westbrook is ranked second on the team with a 74.08 stroke average and leads the team with four scores of par of better and seven scores of 75 or below. He has carded five of the top 11 individual scores this season with four of his 12 scores (33.3 percent) coming in below-par and seven of his 12 scores (58.3 percent) coming in at 74 (two-under par) or better.
SEMINOLE NEWS AND NOTES
Senior Mark Donaldson and junior Rick Westbrook have had all 12 of their scores (100 percent) counted towards the team score during the first four tournament of the spring season…Kris Hannah (Tallahassee, Fla.) is one of three Seminole golfers who has participated in all four tournaments this spring…For Hannah, 10 of his 12 scores (83.3 percent) have counted toward Florida State’s team score this spring.
