The Florida State men’s tennis team have completed the first day of the Seminole Spring Tournament, going 1-1 for the day in dual match competition.
After a tough 4-3 loss to Tennessee Tech this afternoon, Florida State rebounded with a 4-1 win over Furman, a team that just recently defeated No. 26 North Carolina in dual match play, and the Seminoles are hoping to add another win tomorrow against a strong Troy State team.
Against Furman, Xavier Luscan at No. 1, Gustav Bucht at No. 2, Romain Jurd at No. 3, and Jeff Scarella at No. 6 collected singles wins for Florida State. Jurd and Scarella both won their second match of the day.
Other matches of the day consisted of Central Florida winning in an upset match over No. 45 Alabama-Birmingham 4-3 in the first round, and also defeating FAMU with a score of 4-1 in the semi final round. FAMU had defeated Troy State 4-3 earlier in the morning. In another first round match No. 63 Georgia State defeated Furman 4-3 and later went on to win over Tennessee Tech 4-0.
The final of the Seminole Spring Tourney between Central Florida and Georgia State will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Florida State and Troy State also square off at 2:00 p.m. in the finals of the back draw.
