TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  – The No. 11 Florida State men’s tennis team will play its first indoor match of the season as the Seminoles travel to South Bend, Ind., to take on No. 35 Notre Dame on Wednesday, January 28, at 4:30 p.m.

“Notre Dame is a great place to go play,” FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said.  “They have a great program and they do a good job of getting people out to their matches.  It’s a fun place to play and we always enjoy going up there.”

FSU (2-2) is coming into the match after a tough 4-2 loss to No. 2 Texas.  The Garnet and Gold will look to regain momentum against a team they have struggled against in recent years.  Notre Dame (1-2) has beaten the Seminoles five straight times, including a 4-3 decision last year in Tallahassee.  The series has always been evenly matched with four out of the last six matches being decided by a 4-3 score.

“Notre Dame has historically been a tough match for us,” Hultquist said.  “We’ve had a lot of 4-3 matches with them and lately they have won most of them.”

This will be Florida State‘s first indoor match of the season and will help prepare the team for the first two rounds of the ITA National Indoor Tournament which begins on Friday, January 31.

“We feel like it is good for us to get our first indoor match in midweek and then head over to start National Indoors,” Hultquist said.  “We feel like we’ll get better with each match we play indoors as we get used to playing with bigger serves and getting to the net more.”
