TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Seminoles opened their home
schedule with a 4-3 win over the Georgia Southern Eagles to improve their
overall record to 2-1. Leading the way for the Seminoles at No. 1 singles
was Xavier Luscan, who defeated Kendall Schwartz by a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Senior Mike Ingham beat Ryan O’Keefe by a score of 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2
singles spot to add to his current winning streak of two.
The Noles received another point at the No. 3 spot when Chad Mooney
won by a score of 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. In the No. 4 position, Jeff Scarella was
defeated by Florian Scheidat to bring the FSU versus GSU score to 3-3.
The match came down to the No. 5 match where sophomore Noah Schnell
defeated Wojciech Nowak in a hard-fought match that resulted in a FSU 4-3
win. Schnell, who overcame shin splits and some late cramping, won the
three-set match by a score of 7-5, 2-6, 7-6.
In the doubles portion of the match, the tandem of Schnell and
Travis dropped their match at No. 1 doubles to the duo of Kendall and
Schwartz and FSU’s Luscan and Mooney lost to GSU’s Nowak and Anderson
9-8(5) to give Georgia Southern the doubles point. The lone victory in
doubles for FSU came from the pair of Ingham and Scarella who defeated the
Eagles Clark Scheidat 8-4.
The Seminoles will be back in action on Saturday against the
Central Florida Golden Knights at 2:00 p.m.
