Florida State men’s tennis continued their winning streak Saturday, January 27 as they defeated the Florida Atlantic Owls 5-0 and improved their overall season record to 3-0.
In doubles competition, sophomore combination Andrew Bailey (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) flew through the eight game pro set in the number two spot defeating the Owl’s J.P. Later on Saturday, Florida State returned to Scott Speicher Tennis Center to play the Georgia State Panathers in doubles competition at 3:00 p.m. Freshman-senior combination Sucupira and Mixson had a smooth victory in the number three position as they defeated Georgia State’s Andres Arango and Augusto Alvarado 8-1 while sophomore duo Sykut and Bailey overcame a tight match on court number two defeating the Panther’s Nejc Podkrajsek and Mattias Skold 8-5 to seal Florida State the doubles victory. On court number one, Abougzir and Aubone fell short to Georgia State’s Martin Stiegwardt and Anze Cevka 8-6.
“I think we’re all playing better doubles,” coach Hultquist said. “I was glad to see Drew and Maciek pull out their match against Georgia State and win both their matches today.”
